Jesus IS “The Light”: A Discovery of His True Identity

In a world full of confusion, chaos, and spiritual darkness, the phrase ‘Jesus is the Light’ is more than just a poetic metaphor. It’s a lifeline.
Whether you’re walking through a shadowed season, or trying to keep your faith alive in the everyday grind, this truth matters now more than ever. I have a feeling once you read this, you’re going to be as blown away as I was.
A Message God Put on My Heart

I don’t know about you, but this month, I’ve felt God reminding me that light doesn’t shout– it shines. And Jesus is that steady light, even when everything else fades.
It’s been put on my heart and spirit to shout to the world that Jesus is quite LITERALLY, ‘The Light’. I came across this revelation about a month ago. It all started from reading the Book of Enoch and learning that within that book, Enoch tells the entire biblical story from beginning to end and everything in the middle. Stuff that isn’t added to the canonical Bible we have all studied. Some parts mentioned in the Book of Enoch might seem taboo to orthodox Christians and Catholics, but what I found shocked me and brought together so much more understanding of certain things left out.
This Little Light of Mine
1 Enoch 48 : 2-4
“2]And at that hour that Son of Man was named in the presence of the Lord of Spirits, and His name before the Head of Days. 3]Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, before the stars of the heaven were made, His name was named before the Lord of Spirits. 4]He shall be a staff to the righteous whereon to stay themselves and not fall, and He shall be the light of the Gentiles, and the hope of those who are troubled of heart.”
This passage shocked me, because it’s suggesting that the “Son of Man” (a Messianic title Jesus often used for Himself) was already named or known by God ‘BEFORE’ creation -“before the sun and the signs were created”, indicating pre-existence! I immediately flew to my KJV Bible and flipped to Genesis in awe of what I found that concludes this might just be reality.
Genesis 1 : 1-4
“1]In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2]And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the waters. 3]And God said, ‘Let there be light: and there was light. 4]And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”
Right there in black and white: “And God said, ‘Let there be light: and there was light”. I screamed, “Wait, Jesus IS the Light!? Like the literal light that God made in the very beginning”!? I had to continue my research to solidify this. We are all aware of the common statements about Jesus being the ‘light of the world’ but scripture is strongly suggesting that He was quite literally the light and not just a metaphor.
The Way, The Truth and the…
John 1 : 1-5
1] “In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2]The same was in the beginning with God. 3]All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. 4]In Him was life; and the light was the light of men. 5]And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehend it not.”
Here we see that even John knew that Jesus was not only the ‘light’, but He was present with God in the beginning even before anything else was created.
So now we have:
- Pre-existence
- Set apart before creation
- Referred to as “Light”
It’s also no secret that the Book of Enoch talks about the Fallen Angels, aka The Watchers. I found something extraordinary while reading another scripture in Enoch pulling in some more curiosity around Jesus being around pre-creation. Even before the Angels fell from their appointed places in heaven, Jesus– the Son of Man– existed in glory, set apart by the Most High for judgment and redemption. In the Book of Enoch, we are told that the “Son of Man” was hidden with God from the beginning and would one day judge even the Watchers, the angels who defiled themselves with the daughters of men. This implies that Christ was not only present before their fall but was foreordained to be their judge. The Bible confirms this timeless presence in John 1:1-3. This means Jesus was there when the Angels were created– and when they rebelled.
Colossians 1 : 16-18
“16]For by Him all things were created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things have been created by Him, and for Him: 17]And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. 18]And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence.”
Out of Darkness…
Before creation, there was the dark void– chaos without form, a place of confusion and shadow. But from the beginning, God ordained a separation, for Light was not made to coexist with darkness. In the Book of Enoch, we see the Son of Man hidden in glory even before the creation of the luminaries, set apart from the unrighteousness that would soon befall the fallen ones. In the Bible, John testifies that the Light (Jesus) shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. This Light is truth, righteousness, and love. The darkness– chaos, rebellion, hate and death– has its place of judgment, but it can never merge with the Light. Just as in the beginning God divided the light from the darkness, He also appointed the Son to rule in holiness, separate from the ways of the fallen. They are fundamentally opposite by design– the Light exposes and defeats the dark, and never will they unite.
2 Corinthians 6 : 14
“14]What fellowship can light have with darkness?”
None, they are opposites by nature.
1 Peter 2 : 9
“9]…He called you out of Darkness into His wonderful light.”
Ephesians 5 : 8
“8]You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
John 12 : 46
“46]I have come into the world as Light, so that no one who believes in me should remain in darkness.”
John 12 : 36
“36]Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.”
James 1 : 17
“17]Every good and perfect gift is from above… from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow.”
Isaiah 42 : 15-17
“15]I will lead the blind…I will turn the darkness into light before them…”
Isaiah 60 : 1,20
“1]Arise, shine, for your light has come… 20]… the Lord will be your everlasting light.”
John 8 : 12
“12]Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”.
“Light” in the Bible often represents truth, purity, life and direction. When Jesus calls Himself the Light, He’s saying:
- He exposes what’s real
- He brings life to what’s dead
- He gives direction when you’re lost
- He’s the presence that drives out darkness– in you and around you
Jesus Shines Light into Your Life
Psalms 119 : 105
“105]Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Ways Jesus brings His light:
- Through His Word (gives your direction)
- Through conviction (not shame, but correction)
- Through peace (stillness in chaos)
- Through purpose (you realize you’re here for something greater)
What You Can Do With the Light
Matthew 5 : 14-16
“14]You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… Let your light shine before others.”
Jesus calls us to be carriers of His light
This means:
- Living boldly, not perfectly
- Encouraging others in truth
- Shining in your home, in public, online, and in your calling
-“Being the light doesn’t mean being loud– it means being rooted in Him. The glow of His presence will speak even when you don’t have the words.”
Conclusion: Why It Matters Today
If you’re tired, overwhelmed, or unsure what comes next– remember this: the darkness never wins. Not when Jesus is the Light. And if He lives in you, then light is already inside you, too. I encourage you to spend at least 5 minutes in His Word today, speak the name of Jesus out loud in any dark area of your life, pray and speak to Him about being your guiding light each day.
[Optional Prayer]:
“Jesus, thank You for being the Light of the world– and the light of my heart. When the path ahead looks dim, remind me that You are already there, shining the way. Help me carry Your light into every place I go. Amen.”
